Learning Proper Golf Swing Alignment
One of the most important parts of a good golf swing is the alignment. A proper golf swing alignment makes sure that your body is set up properly to the ball, and that your stance is such that the ball is in the right position for contact after the swing. If you correct your golf swing alignment you will have maximum control over the flight of the ball.
Getting Proper Golf Swing Alignment
If you have poor golf swing alignment, you could end up slicing or hooking the ball, having the ball go off in the wrong direction, or even embarrass yourself by totally missing the ball. The good news is that earning the correct golf swing alignment is not difficult. If you are a beginner you will have a great golf swing in no time. All it takes is a little practice for it to become second nature.
The first you need to do is to remember to get your body lined up parallel with where you would like the ball to go. If you master this simple technique, then you are already half way there. That is the basic requirement for good golf swing alignment.
Everything from your shoulders, to your hips, to your knees, to your feet should be in a parallel line pointing right at the target. If your feet are not planted parallel then the ball will hook or slice depending on which foot is off parallel. If your shoulders are off parallel then you will either swing and miss the ball or send it off sharply in the wrong direction. So get your golf swing alignment correct right from the start and parallel yourself to your target.
Addressing The Ball
Once you have your swing alignment parallel with where you want the shot to go, you should address the ball. This does not mean speaking to it by name ? a joke I am sure golf tutors everywhere have done to death! Addressing the ball means placing your club behind the ball, then bending your knees and back to adjust where the club is. You should end up in a comfortable position, with your head over the ball so that you can see it clearly while you are making your swing. Your feed should be exactly shoulder length apart, and your should be in a comfortable position with your knees slightly bent. Now, you will need to check that the ball is in the correct place within your stance.
Ball placement depends on the club you are using. For a wedge or a high numbered iron you should have the ball parallel with your back heel. Middle, and long irons should have the ball in the center of your stance. If you are using a fairway wood or your driver, the ball should be lined up with your front heel. Never put the ball in front of your stance, as this will put your shot off to an angle. Line up the ball within your stance, and you will find it goes where you want it to.
